When talking about improvisation (impro or improv for short), particularly in the context of Theatresports®, we are referring to presenting a performance without preparation.
When you are improvising, you’re ‘acting out’ a scene, skit or even a whole show without predetermined lines, plots or characters. You literally make the story up, on the spot. The characters you create leap from your imagination; their stories, relationships and travels are conjured up from thin air and, to the delight of audience and performers alike, become fascinatingly real.
Impro gives you the freedom to ‘play’, become someone else and have terrific adventures.
While impro is an unrehearsed style of performance, for any scene or show to be successfully presented, there are certain ‘rules’ or guidelines which gives the story being told a structure; that is, it has a beginning, middle and end.
Each story is a completely new collection of imaginative ideas with infinite possibilities. Which of those possibilities are explored, and how they are developed is a responsibility that players use to advance and extend the storyline.
Intro-2-Impro classes are one-off classes of 2 hours duration which are designed to introduce participants to the basic concept of improvisational story-telling. At the end of an Intro-2-Impro class, you will have:
